On Thin Ice: The Relationship Between Trade Associations and the Petro Administration

During Gustavo Petro's administration, trade associations ceased to occupy a privileged position in the development of public policy. Their dialogue with those in power changed profoundly, setting precedents that will be difficult to reverse, even for ideologically aligned administrations.                                                         


Colombia will face a structural realignment of power, marked by the arrival of a new government and a fragmented Congress. This scenario will force a rethinking of the relationship between the private sector and politics.


This report analyzes the current role of trade associations, their relationship with the Gustavo Petro administration, and the scenarios following the 2026 elections, showing why a change in government does not necessarily imply a return to traditional dynamics.
